Dentistry for Kids
Getting an early start on good oral health is incredibly important for patients of all ages. The fact is, regular dental checkups with cleanings are not exclusively reserved for our adult patients. The sooner you can bring your little one into our office for a checkup, the better it will be for them later on in life. Many people mistakenly believe that children do not need to see the dentist, as they will lose their primary teeth in favor of their permanent teeth soon anyway. That could not be further than the truth! We here at Sharokina Eshaghi, DMD would love to meet your child and help them establish healthy dental habits now and set them up for a lifetime of healthy teeth and a happy, beautiful smile for the rest of their life.
Why Your Child Needs Regular Dental Appointments with Us
Even if you know that it is important to make sure that your child is seen at an early age at our office, there may still be some confusion as to when you should set up their first appointment with us. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry® (AAPD) recommends that you schedule your child’s first appointment with us by the time of their first birthday. By this age, they probably already have their first primary (baby) tooth erupting through their gums, and you may already be wondering about teaching them about how to properly brush and floss.
During your child's first visit with us, we can educate you about fluoride for small mouths, preparing for teething, introducing a healthy diet to ensure good oral health, and addressing any developmental concerns that could arise from sucking their thumb.
Did you know that cavities are the most common chronic disease to affect children? By the time they start kindergarten, up to 40 percent of children will have tooth decay. To prevent your child from dealing with the pain and sadness that comes from cavities, we need to meet them to help them learn good brushing and flossing habits. We can also work with you to help prevent baby bottle tooth decay, a specific type of tooth decay that comes from drinking sugary juices and beverages from their bottle.
Seeing us can also help prevent problems that can arise as their teeth come in. Having a healthy mouth not only helps prevent your little one from developing toothaches and poor self-esteem during this critical time, but it can also help them learn how to eat and chew properly. If their teeth do not come in properly, or issues with their alignment are not treated, your child could have problems learning how to speak clearly. They may have issues learning how to eat on their own, as well.
The Benefits Of Seeing Us Early On
If your child meets us at an early age, we can establish a good relationship with them. This can help them learn good oral habits that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Teaching your children at a young age about coming to see us can help prevent any fear that some people do have toward us. All in all, it is extremely important to help build up this relationship while they are young.
